All Scouts & Parents are invited to help the Troop improve the Scout Lodge by bringing brains and muscles to tear out the front bushes and install a French Drain on the field side of the building.  This will involve much work, but with many of us working together, we can accomplish a huge task. Bring a long handled shovel and gloves, plus any loppers you have to cut up the bushes for disposal.  Lunch and Drinks will be served for this event. Scouts needing service hours can qualify for up to 3 hours, so please come by to help even if it's for 3 hours.   If we have time, we will plant new shrubs in the front, but our main goal is to remove the large bushes.  We may even have to do some sprinkler repair. All Scouts are asked to be in attendance at the annual Pancake Supper to assist with many of the various tasks and events.  Uniform to be Class B, Red Shirt for Wildcats and Wranglers, Green shirt for Greenhorns. This is a great fundraising event for the Troop so make sure to bring your family to eat great pancakes.
2/10/2013 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM SCOUT SUNDAY OUTDOOR EXPO

All Scouts are to report to the Fellowship Hall at 7:30 to prepare for Scout Sunday in the sanctuary.  All Scouts are required to be in attendance and dressed in Class A uniform with dress shoes. After the service, we will go to the Scout Lodge and begin cooking Dutch Oven cobblers for the visitors who will come by after the service.  All Scouts and Scout families will be served lunch, prepared in the Troop smoker. We will pack up all gear to the trailers and garage, and be able to leave by 2:00, just like any other campout.

Geocaching campout to be from Friday through Saturday evening.  We will return to the Scout Lodge and set up tents and gear for Scout Sunday the following day. Scouts will go home, shower, sleep and be at the Church Fellowship Hall no later than 7:30 a.m.   After the service, we will serve cobbler cooked by the Patrols to the visitors who come by after their services.  We will serve lunch, cooked by the ASM's in our Troop smoker, then pack up the gear so the boys can leave by 2:00. This will be a great time for all the Scout families to enjoy seeing how the boys prepare for camping and taste some of the great food we enjoy on campouts.

All new Scouts interested in joining our Troop must attend this meeting to participate in the Scout rank Scoutmaster Conference.  Once all new Scouts achieve this rank, they are allowed to join the Greenhorn Program, which meets on Wednesday nights.  All boys must be dressed in their Boy Scout uniform, which consists of Scout pants, Scout shirt, hiking boots and wool socks.

A FAVORITE FOR TROOP 641, WATCHING SCOUTS BUILD THEIR SHELTERS AND SURVIVE MOTHER NATURE WITHOUT THE USE OF SLEEPING BAGS AND TENTS. ALL WILDERNESS SURVIVAL MERIT BADGE CANDIDATES MUST HAVE WORKED ON THEIR SURVIVAL KITS PRIOR TO THE CAMPOUT BY SIGNING UP FOR THE MERIT BADGE WITH MR. WILSON. PATROL SCOUTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO CAMP IN TENTS, BUT WILL WORK ON THEIR SHELTERS SEPARATELY FROM THEIR CAMPSITES.  AT THAT TIME, THE PATROL SCOUTS WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO SLEEP IN THEIR SHELTERS, OR THEIR TENTS, DEPENDING ON THE CONDITION OF THEIR SHELTERS. MEMBERS FROM THE CHURCH ARE INVITED TO VISIT THIS EXPO AS OUR SCOUTS WILL DEMONSTRATE HOW THEY PARTICIPATE IN SCOUTING IN THE OUTDOORS. EACH PATROL WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR SETUP.   THE EVENT WILL BE COMPLETED AS FOLKS GO TO THE THIRD SERVICE, SO PLAN ON ALL SCOUTS BEING DONE BY NOON AS THEY PUT UP ALL THE TENTS AND TARPS BACK INTO THE GARAGE. EACH SCOUT MUST BE AT THE FELLOWSHIP HALL BY 7:30 A.M., READY TO HEAR THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROCESSIONAL INTO THE SANCTUARY.  DONUTS WILL BE SERVED. FOLLOWING THE SERVICE, SCOUTS WILL BE ASKED TO ASSIST IN THE "SOUPER BOWL OF CARING", HELPING THE CONGREGATION GATHER DONATED ITEMS IN CERTAIN AREAS OF THE CHURCH. Location: Giles Ranch, New Ulm, Texas
We will camp at the at the Giles Ranch located in New Ulm, Texas. We will backpack in our gear, learn survival techniques, and dine on one pot meals.  This is a great tradition for the Troop as Wilderness Survival Merit Badge participants will get a taste of what it's like to survive in the wilderness with only a few items. The scouts will hike in and set out by patrols to set up their camp. The scouts will bring their own tarp and parachute cord (standard backpacking items) and set about to build their overnight shelters and sleep together as a patrol. They will also need to bring a few lightweight tent pegs and personal rain gear and pack cover. If it rains, it will be a great idea to bring an extra garbage bag to protect the lower part of your sleeping bag from moisture. On Saturday morning, the boys who are signed up for Wilderness Survival merit badge will pack up and meet with Mr. Kennedy for their class and overnight/shelter building in a totally separate area. They will spend Saturday night in their personal shelters that they have built for the merit badge requirements.

A must for all first and second year Scouts. This long standing tradition of Summer Camp is in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, located in the Devil's Backbone area of Wimberley. We camp at the Cockrell River Camp, enjoying the Blanco River while learning all the valuable Scouting Skills like Hiking the Death March to Sentinel Peak, Swimming and Lifesaving Merit Badge, Cooking all week for the Troop, cutting invasive Juniper and Cedar for Conservation, and much, much more. If your Scout is not a First Class, he needs to attend Cima, especially to earn Swimming and Lifesaving Merit Badges.

The Troop has been asked to provide assistance to the Geokinetics MS 150 team of riders, offering help with loading bikes and equipment Saturday morning in La Grange, Texas. In addition, Scouts will be cooking cobblers and other food items for those who want to indulge in great Scout Cooking. The volunteers will campout on the church grounds and wake up Sunday to help load all the gear back in the truck before the Churchgoers arrive. Then, the Scouts will begin their own Cycling Merit Badge ride, achieve the 25 mile required ride. It will be a great time to be a Scout volunteer and help this great cause.

This is a required event for all Scouts and Scoutmasters. Chapelwood gives so much to the Troop and this is our chance to honor our chartering organization with our presence. All Scouts and Scoutmasters are to be dressed in full Class A uniform with sashes (sashes for Scouts only).

Fat Tuesday/Mardis Gras plans? Did you know that a “Pancake Supper” is a traditional celebration on Fat Tuesday, the day preceding Ash Wednesday, in the UK and other locations? All Scouts are expected to participate in this charitable event, cooking pancakes, serving others, and cleaning. Join Chapelwood members and visitors for their Fifth Annual Pancake Supper celebration to be cooked and served by Boy Scout Troop 641.

All Day Enchanted Rock Campout
Location: Enchanted Rock
Climb the dome at Enchanted Rock, learn to rappell, backpack into the primitive camping area and eat one pot meals. This is a great outing, taking advantage of the 3 day weekend during President's Day.

Be prepared to recite the Scout Oath and Law, know the Square Knot and be ready to give examples of how Scouting is important in our community.

All Day Wilderness Survival Campout
Location: Valach's Ranch
Arrive at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday to depart at 7:00 a.m. All gear is stored in Backpacks and we hike in from a designated spot. New Scouts to the Troop will be taught the traditional camping methods, while other seasoned Scouts will learn how to make shelters. Wilderness Survival Merit badge Scouts will be responsible for setting up their own survival camping area. Those Scouts who have the Merit Badge and want a higher level Survival Experience can go up Friday night with Mr. Bone to enjoy two nights of how to survive without much gear. All details will be announced at the upcoming meetings.
